ピアノフォルテは1840年頃より始まった演奏方法。柔らかい音の歯とより強い音の歯を二枚組み合わせ、強弱のついた美しいハーモニーを作り出す。弱く柔らかな音を出す為に、薄い櫛歯を使用。歯の数は81本の櫛歯と44本の櫛歯を合わせて125本。
